Pet Services
Forest House Veterinary Group surgeries are friendly, comfortable, hygienic and inviting for both clients and pets.
As well as free on-site parking and disabled access, FHVG has an array of facilities to support the veterinary team and ensure that pets are cared for to the highest possible standards.
These excellent health-screening and diagnostic facilities mean that all animals can receive quick and comprehensive health checks and if necessary, can be treated as quickly and effectively as possible.
Consultation Suites
The spacious and well equipped consulting rooms are custom designed to be comfortable for pet and owner and include a dedicated room for our Veterinary Nurses to hold their clinics.
We are an “MRSA free” practice and regularly monitor all areas of the hospital.
The practice is professionally cleaned each night with a deep clean once a week. All areas, including walls are treated with antibacterial / anti viral agents to minimise any risk of infection occurring.

Operating Theatres
FHVG has two operating theatres, one is dedicated to soft tissue surgery, the other is specifically for orthopaedic surgery.
When in the theatres, all staff are suitably clothed in theatre scrubs with sterile surgical gowns, gloves etc, as required.
There is a dedicated recovery area, which is continually monitored by a nurse with an oxygen tent on hand for emergency use.
All anaesthetised patients are monitored constantly by dedicated, skilled veterinary nurses who record specific measurements of each patient during the anaesthetic.
To help them, each patient has an oesophageal stethoscope attached to it and also a machine which can monitor numerous vital parameters in the anaesthetised patient.
These machines are exactly the same as those used in human anaesthesia and patient monitoring in intensive care.
In addition, we have various diagnostic monitoring devices which help us to evaluate individual cases:
- direct and indirect opthalmoscopy
- a tonopen to monitor intraocular pressure
- ECGs and blood pressure monitors.
In House Laboratory
Our in house laboratory facility enables us to carry out very comprehensive blood screening and urinalysis on any animal very quickly and the facility is available 24 hours a day.
In our laboratory, immediate tests can be done on blood samples, smears and biopsy samples from skin or other parts of the body.
Routine blood tests look at red and white blood cells and various chemicals in the blood. The lab can be used in order to monitor health (e.g. before an anaesthetic), to diagnose disease, or to monitor the response to treatment.
Basic blood screening can identify diseases ranging from anaemia to liver and kidney disease and from infections to problems with the immune system and diabetes. Many other more complex tests can be performed on the premises.
It is also possible to perform pre-mating tests for breeding bitches and tests to diagnose Feline aids or leukaemia.

Imaging Suite
The imaging suite at Forest House Veterinary Group is one of our proudest assets. This is a spacious, dedicated imaging facility, which is very comprehensively fitted.
Radiograph
We have a very modern, high intensity x-ray machine, which is attached to a mechanised, floating-tilting table to enable specialised radiographic procedures, like myelograms, to be undertaken with minimal stress to the pet.
The automatic processor produces quality diagnostic radiographs on-site without delay.
Endoscopy
We have three excellent endoscopes – two bronchoscopes and a gastroscope, which enable us to view the respiratory and alimentary tract in most cats and dogs in a non invasive manner.
This is linked to a video/televisual system to enable more than one person to view and interpret any clinical findings. The extended gastroscope is also utilised to view the respiratory tract of horses and ponies.
The scopes are used as diagnostic tools – taking biopsies, flushing areas and sampling fluids and also to retrieve foreign bodies.
Ultrasound
We have an excellent ultrasound machine and are in the process of upgrading this to a state of the art machine. This can be used to image most organs and structures in the body in a non-invasive manner.
Blood flow can also be measured using the Doppler technique aiding diagnosis, in cardiac cases for instance
Orthopaedic Equipment
Forest House Veterinary Group has in place all the equipment necessary to carry out external bone fixations, internal pinning and plating.
The veterinary team also has access to all the instruments needed to perform operations on ligaments, tendons and cruciate repairs.
Electrocardiogram
The electrocardiogram (ECG) machine is used by vets and veterinary nurses to measure a pet's heart activity.
It is used to assess the rhythm of the heart and provides an indicator of how the heart is beating.
Opthalmoscopy
The practice has available both Direct and Indirect Opthalmoscopes to enable the veterinary surgeons to quickly see any abnormalities in your pet’s eyes.
We also have a Tonopen which enables us to measure intra ocular pressure.
Separate Dog & Cat Wards
The FHVG hospital includes spacious and comfortable wards, one for dogs and another for cats. As with other areas of the practice, these are kept scrupulously clean and disinfected.
The temperature on the wards is carefully monitored and the surgery’s air conditioning and heating systems ensure that pets are kept as comfortable as possible during their stay.
The pets in the wards are constantly monitored by a dedicated nurse and comprehensive records are maintained for each patient.
The animals are encouraged to feel ‘at home’ and clients are invited to visit their pets in the hospital when mutually convenient.
Great care is taken to ensure that animals and owners are made to feel as comfortable and as well cared for as possible.
Specialist Referral Clinics
In add to first opinion cases, Forest House Veterinary Group also takes on second opinion and referral cases.
Please contact the practice for further information.
Great After Eight Club
Older pets need extra care and attention and in order to cater for this need, Forest House Veterinary Group has established the Great After Eight Club.
These clinics offer the chance for older pets to receive a full health screen and the aim is to prevent or delay the onset of disease, identify and treat existing problems, maintain body condition and quality of life and, if necessary, address the issue of pain management.
There is the opportunity for owners to discuss – with Forest House Veterinary Group's experienced veterinary nurses – issues relating to the care of older pets and means of ensuring they have as long and happy a life as possible.
(There is no charge for membership of the club.)
Fit & Trim Club
Forest House Veterinary Group offers this clinic for dogs and cats and it provides owners with the opportunity to discuss the extremely important issues of diet and exercise with a qualified veterinary nurse.
This clinic is rather like Weight Watchers for pets! On a serious note: keeping pets fit and trim could help eliminate the cost of medical problems that can be caused by obesity.
There are four steps to getting pets fit and trim:
1) Weigh and then work out your pet's correct body weight.
2) Decide what your pet needs to be fed and how much per day.
3) Create an exercise plan that fits in with your lifestyle.
4) Regular weight checks to ensure success.
(All consultations are free.)
Puppy Clinics
Forest House Veterinary Group offers ‘puppy parties' – held every two weeks – for young canines aged up to 15 weeks old. This is the most important time for socialisation and during the party, puppies are invited to come into the surgery with their owners for an hour and have playtime, as well as a tour of the practice.
The following week after the party, pups are invited to return for a 30-minute puppy progress clinic, which provides the chance for them to get used to being handled by veterinary staff. During this session the puppy is assessed against a growth chart to ensure that he/she is developing at the correct rate.
During the final puppy progress clinic, owners can bring their puppies into the surgery once more to learn more about raising a dog. At the end of this visit, you will receive a goody bag and your puppy will receive a special certificate.
(All the consultations are free.)
Pet Dentistry
In Forest House Veterinary Group"s surgery, there is similar equipment to that found in a human dentist, except all of it is specifically designed for use on pets!
With this equipment, the veterinary team are able to remove unwanted teeth, get rid of plaque and tartar with an ultrasonic scaler, as well as polish your pet"s teeth with special toothpaste.
